Bryan & Lisa Rill, PhD’s are the dynamic duo at the heart of the team, holding degrees in Cultural Anthroplogy and Sociology. Their skills are complemented by colleagues that hold advanced degrees in Digital Anthropology, Cognitive Science, and History. Each team member has a strong foundation in academics that has been translated into industry practices.

Bryan Rill, PhD

Founder & Principal

Bryan is the Founder and Principal at Rill Insights, a design educator at the University of California San Diego, and board member of Design Forward Alliance. He received his PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Florida State University in 2011, and has since worked professionally as an educator, researcher, experience designer, and operations manager for a range of organizations, from startups to enterprise software companies. He leverages a diverse, global background to deliver insights, catalyze innovation, and develop creative leaders. Bryan is also author of the book, “The Art of Co-Creation: A Guidebook for Practitioners” – a user guide for designing and facilitating co-creative innovation

Lisa Rill, PhD

Senior UX Researcher | Content Designer

Trained as a Sociologist with expertise in Aging and Healthcare, Lisa brings her passion for helping others to every project. She is our user research and communications expert, a skilled interviewer, and content designer. Lisa received her PhD from Florida State University, and worked as Research Faculty at the Claude Pepper Center on Aging at FSU, and Executive Director at Senior Life Source, a non-profit organization that provides education on aging for all ages. Through these experiences, Lisa developed skills such as empathy and deep listening that make her an excellent UX researcher. She has experience working with healthcare professionals, community agencies, non-profit organizations, and the business community, helping them deliver quality products and services to their customers.

Digital Anthropologist | UX Strategist

Sydney is a digital anthropologist with over 15 years of applied research experience. She specializes in UX, accessibility, and intersectional research, focusing on humanizing data and elevating diverse perspectives in tech. Her expertise spans experience design and research, product management, UX strategy, market research, and digital marketing across sectors like med tech, fintech, social media, e-commerce, real estate, and agtech. Sydney earned her Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, where she studied how death practices on social media affect grieving and user experiences. She has consulted for the Joseph Campbell Foundation and UNESCO’s Digital Anthropology Initiative and is passionate about uncovering the shared humanity in technology and innovation.
